The Coromandel Peninsula lies east of Auckland. An impressive forested mountain range runs through its middle, bordered on each side by spectacular coastline. The west coast, where the cliffs rise sharply over the shore, is dotted with beaches, coves and harbours lined with pohutukawa trees. It's an ideal spot to fish, surf, dive and swim. In contrast, on the eastern side of the Coromandel the range gives way to open white-sand surf beaches.
